PUP (Postgraduate and Under-graduate Partnership)云端研学共同体是在上海外国语大学世界语言博物馆与共青团上海外国语大学委员会大力支持下成立的本硕博一体化研学共同体。PUP共同体秉承“云端研学、你我同行”的理念，通过信息化云端平台举办线上线下开放式系列研学活动，旨在促进跨年级、跨学段、跨领域学生间的学术交流，营造浓郁的学术氛围，促进共同体成员间的交流与进步。目前，共同体已举办各类学术活动数十期，建立了三个微信群，成员千余人，在青年学者中间产生了较大影响力。
本期PUP邀请了得克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校博士生贾勉，他的研究探讨了微妙的语言特征对人的认知与行为的交际效果。本次讲座，贾勉将会与我们讨论在话语分析（discourse-analytic）和讯息设计（message design）这两种范式下，学者如何研究健康传播话题，并且这两种范式的整合将如何有助于建立对健康传播的整体理解。

Toward an integrated understanding of language use in health communication:
Discourse-analytic and message design approaches
内容摘要
Applied linguists and Communication scholars have shared interests in exploring language use (e.g., patient-centered messages, metaphoric framing) in health communicative contexts such as medical consultations about various illnesses and warning messages about extreme weathers and viral infections.
Researchers in these two disciplines mainly adopt different yet complementary approaches to health issues. Using discourse-analytic (DA) approaches such as conversation analysis and corpus analysis, applied linguists tend to focus on describing and explicating health messaging techniques in naturally occurring interactions. In contrast, communication scholars favor message design (MD) approaches that compare the effects of different message features on participants' perceptions, attitudes, and behavioral intentions.
In this talk, Jia will illustrate how DA and MD scholars examine health communication topics such as interactional sequence in medical consultation and framing in health messaging. Then he will discuss how an integration of these two paradigms would be beneficial for creating a holistic understanding of research on language and health communication.
